The University of Zaragoza was founded in 1542 and is situated in the heart of Aragon, flanked by the Pyrenees and the Iberian mountain range. The University itself is spread over three campuses which correspond to the three regions within the Autonomous Community of Aragon. The University finds its roots in the old Ecclesiastical Schools, one of which was the ancient School of Zaragoza, created in the 7th century, and whose patron was Bishop Braulio, who later went on to be the first patron of the University. But it was really in the time of the Renaissance during 16th century when the University was first recognized as a leading institution for its support and research in science, literature and art. It was Felipe III himself who confirmed the status of the University and also acquired a degree from there in 1599.With an impressive history dating back to the Roman period, it is no wonder that the university is very popular with international students. They come from far and wide to study at this cultural University that is surrounded by monuments and museums. The University has a number of interesting courses ranging from Arts to Sciences and Engineering.
